Ordering food online

Ordering food over the phone can be a pain, especially since restaurants in Budapest thrives on the incredible combination of rudeness and unwillingness to understand the small amount of Hungarian we learn when we first come here. Therefore, it is good to know that there are several options for online ordering:

Netpincer.hu
This “net waiter” gives you the option of ordering from more than 100 restaurants in Budapest. You need to set up an account, but only your name, address, and phone number/email is required.

E-menu
This one opened up a few years ago and people say it’s good. I haven’t tried it myself.

Pizza Hut
I live by Deak Ferenc ter and Pizza Hut here is probably the market leader when it comes to terrible service! At least their online food ordering works like a charm and is surprisingly fast (that means you get what you actually order in less than an hour, most of the time). More expensive than other pizza restaurants, but I prefer the Pizza Hut quality.

Ordering food over the phone

There are a few places that make it easy to order over the phone. I have a few favorites, where they speak great English (or they are very patient when you try out your Hungarian skills):

Pink Cadillac – A favorite among students. Located in the Raday street and their friendly staff and newly renovated restaurant make it a hotspot during the Spring and Fall. Mostly Italian food.

Buddah Coffebar – Another student favorite. Located in Terez körut, close to Nyugati Palyudvar. Asian food – either from wok, with rice or noodles, or as one of their famous (and tastfully sloppy) warm sandwiches. They are now part of the Netpincer concept (see above)!
